Thomas A. Lang is a partner at Cunningham, Meyer & Vedrine who focuses his practice in civil litigation with an emphasis on medical malpractice, professional liability, and general commercial litigation.

Tom’s wide ranging experience encompasses all aspects of civil litigation, including serving as first and second chair on several successful medical malpractice trials and arbitrations. He also has a strong success record in the appellate courts.


He represents and defends physicians, physician owned practice groups, hospitals and extended care facilities in various fields of medicine, including emergency medicine, orthopedics, cardiology, internal medicine, urology, nursing, obstetrics, general surgery and plastic surgery.

Tom also represents physicians before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Tom’s experience in commercial litigation includes defending claims involving fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, retaliatory discharge, whistle-blowing, conspiracy and violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. He also defends professional liability actions on behalf of attorneys, corporate officers and directors, and insurance brokers, involving myriad types of underlying claims. 

Tom frequently writes about best practices in litigation, including the piece "Strategic Response to Client Deposition Use at Trial by Plaintiff" in Professional Liability Defense Quarterly, Volume 9, Issue 5, December 2017. Tom is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Chicago Healthcare Risk Management Society and the Professional Liability Defense Federation.
