MICHAEL R. SLOVIS
Michael R. Slovis received his legal education at DePaul University College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1992. Immediately after law school, he practiced criminal law as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County Illinois. Mr. Slovis argued numerous times before the Illinois Appellate Court and tried over 30 felony cases, including a number of murder trials.
In 1995, Mr. Slovis joined Bollinger, Ruberry & Garvey and was named partner in 2000. In 2002 Mr. Slovis and David C. Burtker joined Cunningham, Meyer & Vedrine; Mr. Slovis became a shareholder of Cunningham Meyer & Vedrine in 2002 while he and David Burtker worked to create the Chicago Office.
Since 1995, Mr. Slovis has concentrated his practice in litigation with a specific focus in the areas of medical malpractice and nursing home negligence. Mr. Slovis has successfully tried many civil cases to verdict on behalf of hospitals, physicians and practice groups. Mr. Slovis has worked directly with area hospitals and practice groups to implement risk prevention practices. In addition to his work with healthcare providers Mr. Slovis has also successfully defended cases involving premises liability, product liability and construction negligence liability.
As part of Mr. Slovis’s general defense litigation practice he continues to represent physicians and nurses in disciplinary and licensing matters before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
Mr. Slovis has also authored and published three articles, which discussed a defendant-physician’s role in medical malpractice litigation and the litigation challenges of the electronic medical record. In addition, Mr. Slovis has lectured before legal and medical organizations on the topics of trial practice, risk prevention, medical malpractice law and electronic medical records.
In 2004 Mr. Slovis was named to the 2004 Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s 40 Attorneys Under Forty to Watch and has been consistently identified since 2005 as an Illinois Super Lawyer.
Mr. Slovis is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar. Mr. Slovis is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Society of Trial Lawyers, Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, Illinois Association of Defense Counsel, American Health Information Management Association, Chicago Healthcare Risk Management Society and Illinois Health Information Management Association.
